Sen. Ciccone introduces legislation to put SSM before voters

This news puts Gov. Chafee on the defensive when it comes to his (unconstitutional) threats to veto a referendum.

While same-sex marriage supporters were cheering a vote by the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, Sen. Frank A. Ciccone III, D-Providence, was adding his voice to the marriage debate.

Unlike the legislation that’s scheduled for a vote by the House Thursday, Ciccone’s would not legalize same-sex marriage.

Rather, it would ask voters if they want it to amend the state Constitution so that it defines marriage as “the lawful union of one man and one woman.”

The resolution, S 0096, has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.  -Providence Journal

Remember to come to the State House today at 3pm to join the chorus of voices for traditional marriage.
